Tutorial 3 - Configuring the Display Mode

When the input string contains non-ASCII characters, they are displayed in hexidecimal form. Two formats are available and Display Mode is used to select which format is used in the output display. Click on Generate and follow the instructions below.

ABNF Grammar:   X

To begin, click on Configure and check the two boxes "Save Parsed Phrases" and "Save Parser Trace". Then click Parse. To see the display of strings in ASCII format, in turn click "Parsed String", "Parsed Phrases" and "Display Trace".

Now click Configure again, select "hex" under Display Mode and save. Click Parse again and re-examine the strings. As with the Input Mode, "auto" will often, but not always pick the appropriate display format.
